About the
Steuben Senior Services Fund, Inc.
The Steuben
Senior Services Fund is a private, not-for-profit
senior citizen endowment fund established
in the year 2000 to supplement future public funding for
senior independent living through home care for
the elderly in Steuben County NY.
|
The endowment goal is $6.5million. |
The Fund was
established at the recommendation of the Steuben County Office for the Aging
volunteer Advisory Council after extensive research regarding the needs of
future elderly residents of the county. Offices for the Aging are public or
private non-profit agencies identified by the State to address the needs and
concerns of older persons. Providing services to this population has always
been a challenge in this large, primarily rural county, but will become even
more challenging with the influx of aging baby boomers.
The Advisory
Council recognized the certainty that public funds will not be sufficient to
keep pace with the demand for health-related services to the elderly
population (indeed, they are insufficient at the present time). The Council
confirmed its commitment to the private endowment concept with an initial
contribution for start-up expenses. A broad and growing donor base has
supported operating expenses to date, and the protected endowment balance
continues to grow. (Visit
Network for Good for the
2006 annual financial report.)
SSSF is
governed by a 12-member volunteer Board of Directors and employs one
part-time executive director. The Fund is recognized by the IRS as a
not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and donations to the Fund are fully
tax-deductible.
